Welcome to YOGA HOUSE
newsletter#31 March 2020

Spring is finally making its way to us. There is definitely more light around and nature is waking up. With all the season changes, we can feel a bit slower and more tired emerging back from the colder, darker months. This is the time to stay healthy and restored, getting ready for the new adventures ahead. If your immune system feels compromised make sure you look after yourself. Take rest when needed, don’t over work yourself, do more yoga (a great way to boost immunity and happiness), and remember to have a healthy ideally seasonal diet. Give yourself more time to do things you love and that make you happy. When we feel happy, our bodies and mind will feel much stronger.

We have a new entrance to our Leegate studio, still in Leegate but a bit further towards Sainsbury’s side, next door to Wetherspoons there is a colourful staircase to take you up to the first floor and we’re just along the balcony. We hope this injection of colour puts you in a happy mood.

BOOST YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM
BY OUR IN-HOUSE
NUTRITIONIST ZANNIE KROGH

Support better immune health.

Many people are looking at ways to support and boost their immune system.
In addition a healthy diet and lifestyle to support better immune health is also important and some good ways to support yourself;
  • Consuming plenty of brightly coloured fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices. Aim to have 8-10 different coloured vegetables (80%) and fruit (20%) a day. Add daily some anti-viral boosters including garlic, turmeric and ginger plus vitamin C rich food like dark blue and purple berries (frozen is fine), kiwi, sweet potatoes, red and green peppers and broccoli.
  • Regularly getting good quality sleep. Sleep is vital for the immune system and without enough sleep you are more vulnerable to infections like colds, flu and coughs.
  • Stress can suppress the immune system, so include ways to keep your stress levels in check and making time for daily relaxation/mindfulness and yoga.
Supplements which can support a better immune response;
  • Vitamin C – Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant, has anti-inflammatory activity and supports the body’s ability to fight infection.
  • Vitamin D – play a significant role in the function of the immune system.
  • Elderberry extract – studies have found elderberry extracts to be beneficial for reducing symptoms of influenza and the common cold.
  • Beta-glucan supplements – have been shown to stimulate immune activity.
  • Vitamin A, Zinc and selenium can support better immune health.
You can book a consultation with Zannie at our therapy room in Catford.

Hygiene at the studio
With the current global situation, and a lot of talk in media, we too wanted to give you an update on the measures we are taking at our studios to keep the risk of any infection at bay. We closely follow WHO and Public Health England. All our mat sprays include alcohol, witch hazel and essential oils like tea tree, lemon grass and lavender. We have sanitising hand gel available for you to use at the studios.
We are getting the studios cleaned regularly, but also need your help in keeping the environment safe and germs free.
Please help by doing the following – spray your mats and props (blocks etc.) before and after you use them.
Please wash your hands regularly and use the sanitising gels. If you’re attending a hot yoga class you must use a towel that is big enough to cover your mat and it has to be placed on top of your mat for the duration of the class. If you forget your towel we hire them at the studio.
If you are unwell please don’t come to class. We know this can be very frustrating, but in a long run it’ll help us keep the studio safe and open for use.
We are closely following updates and government advice and will keep you posted on any further updates.
