Welcome to your Yoga House Weekly!

We have so much to tell you about today…It’s seems like a busy and full on time for all of us at the moment. Fear not, we have plenty to help you through this time. 

As the Winter Solstice approaches (December 21st) we have some guidance to prepare you for this powerful and magical event. Our remaining Workshops of the year are designed for complete and utter relaxation. 
Alice is back in person for her Winter Bliss workshop including Yin, Nidra, Sound & Chocolate! and we have a beautiful Winter Solstice Sound Bath to welcome the light back. 

There are tons to update you on the Studios. We are continuing to make our studios a safe place to practice by up keeping our covid measures. Masks are now compulsory unless on your mat. 
We have our Christmas Schedule ready 🎄 We will be open throughout the festive period (expect Christmas and Boxing Day). If you are away seeing family, remember our online and on demand classes.

Our Teacher Asana Series is back with Martyna sharing her love of Malasana. And we sign off with a Prayer for the Winter Solstice.

WINTER SOLSTICE

December 21st marks the Winter Solstice. It’s time to embrace the darkness and celebrate the return to light.
 
According to its Latin roots, the word Solstice means “sun standing still,” and for millennia the Winter Solstice has been celebrated around the world – acknowledging the shortest day of the year as a return to light.
 
This day has been celebrated by many for centuries.  The darkness is seen as protection, and there is a simple yet profound observation of the stillness between the end of one cycle and the beginning of the next. This is a time to reflect and assimilate all of the wisdom, thoughts and feelings that have been cultivated in the dark and bring them into the light.
 
Astrologically, Winter begins as the Sun moves into the Saturn-ruled, tropical zodiac sign Capricorn. Saturn rules aspects of the Earth that feel predictable, steady and grounded in reality. It offers slowness, the wisdom that comes with time and clues about our life’s purpose.
This magically gift of stillness and reflection has been hijacked by modern day pressures to prepare for festivities, spend, gather and be busier than ever before. We are pushing against our need for rest and restoring the balance will take time.
 
In the lead up to the Winter Solstice we invite you to take a couple of minutes daily to reflect on what you have achieved this year and to write it down. We spend much of our time thinking what is next and how can I get there. By looking back and seeing what we have accomplished already can really motivate us. It’s time to celebrate and be proud of us!
 
When the Solstice arrives on December 21st you will be ready to set your intention for the New Sun.
 

Winter Solstice Sound Bath with Lizzy Chong

We are holding a beautiful Winter Solstice Sound Bath with Lizzy Chong on December 19th at our Catford Studio. Lizzy will use her crystal singing bowls, gongs, chimes and other magical instruments to help to completely switch off, let go and surrender. Opening breath work will allow these harmonious vibratory frequencies to lull you into a deep relaxation, at which point your body can facilitate healing on a cellular level.

This session will allow you to gather the rest you need for the weeks ahead. Welcome the light back and take this time of rest for you.

STUDIO UPDATE | COVID

We will be continuing our Covid Guidance for the Studios and ask that masks be worn when moving around the studio space, until you find your mat.
Please only attend our studios if you feel well. If you feel unwell for any reason, then please stay at home, follow appropriate guidance, and we’ll see you when you feel well again. You can also access our online classes and on demand class service. 

The studios are still at 60% capacity to allow for social distancing and our student’s comfort.

The studio itself will be thoroughly cleaned & disinfected regularly – all classes are scheduled allowing time to clean and prepare the studio for the next session. This will also minimise contact between departing & arriving clients. It may be necessary at times to queue outside the studio before entering.

STUDIO UPDATE | CHRISTMAS

Our studios will be open over Christmas & New Year with the exception of Christmas Day & Boxing Day. Sunrise Classes will take a break from December 20th – January 2nd.
You will be able to request any recordings from past classes to practice when you need.

We also have a slight amended schedule for the main festive days.

Booking through Classpass – important changes 
For anyone booking through the booking portal Classpass, you will start seeing some changes to the available schedule. Classpass has stopped streaming all online classes due to Apple restricting streaming with them. There will also be no more hot classes at Yoga House available to book through Classpass and the current timetable available will be reduced across the week. (This is for clients using Classpass only). Customers booking through our site by drop-in, class packages and memberships will still have full access to the whole timetable in-studio and online and there will be no changes. We offer great packages, offers and memberships so there are huge benefits to book direct.

STUDIO UPDATE | CHRISTMAS TREE OF LOVE

Let’s Spread The Love
Our Teacher Asana Series is back and this week we have Martyna sharing her love of Malasana – the Yogic ‘squat’
I love Malasana because it works multiple parts of the body. It increases ankle mobility, hip mobility, opens up the groin, strengthens glutes and what’s most important to me : improves digestion. Malasana is very effective and recommended to do for anyone who: sits at the desk all day, is pregnant, loves to run/cycle or suffers with bad period cramps.
What I love the most about Malasana, it can be easily modified. Don’t worry if your heels don’t touch the ground or you can’t squat very low! You can use blankets, folded mat and blocks to make it suitable for your body!
