Happy Christmas from Yoga House

*|MC:SUBJECT|*

Welcome to your Yoga House Weekly

It’s nearly here and we still have so much to tell you about!
We are open over Christmas (except Christmas and Boxing day) with a slightly adapted schedule. Christmas Eve you can join Kasia & Junior for a special festive Yin & Sound Scape 1h30m Class at Lee.
We have New Workshops for the New Year and you still have time to get our December Offers.

We are watching government announcement and guidance carefully. The studios are being kept safe and at 60% capacity, you will have plenty of personal space to practice. We will update you if there are any changes in restrictions. Remember you can join us online if away from the studios and we have our on demand service available. Maintaining your practice, especially in times of uncertainty and over indulgence, can bring you calm and grounding.

Speaking of indulgence, we have some tips to share with you on a zero waste Christmas. This includes three amazing recipes for your leftovers. The wonderful Francesca shares her asana of the week and Kasia has a playlist for you.

The Festive Period is a time for LOVE and we have so much love for our community. Many of you purchased a tag for our Christmas Tree of Love and these messages have been share with the team and teachers. These have created lots of smiles and even a few tears. Our community is everything to us. Stay Safe and Keep Practicing.

STUDIO UPDATE | CHRISTMAS TREE OF LOVE

SPREAD SOME CHRISTMAS CHEER
We love you all!
Thank you for the messages on the Christmas Tree on Love and your donations to the Lewisham Food Bank. You can still gift a tag and make a donation until the New Year.

Let’s Spread The Love
The festive period is a time to relax. Stepping away from the computer, seeing family and enjoying life. All of which can be magical but can lend itself to excess consumption and waste. We have put together some tips to help you have a Zero Waste Christmas.

1. Unwanted Gifts
Don’t hide them under the bed or pack them in the loft with the decorations. Get on Facebook Market or Ebay and pass that gift to someone who will love it. Or better yet, donate it to a local charity!
2. Making Space
Clear room from your children’s new toys by gifting old ones to a children charity. This is a wonderful thing to do and teaches children and valuable lesson.
3. The Great Throw Away
Wrapping paper, boxes, food, bottles all pile up ready for the bin men’s return. Have your recycle bags ready by the tree when Christmas day comes and getting clearing straight away.
4. Food Waste
We spend a fortune in the supermarkets before Christmas and so much goes uneaten.
Here are three delicious recipes to keep you going from Boxing Day to New Year. Batch bake and pop in the freezer for an easy January.
Meera Sodha’s Leftover Roast Veg & Harissa Spiral Pie
This is a Boxing Day treat! Forget Turkey Curry, this veggie pie packs a punch and is super easy to make.
Check out the recipe here.

Meera’s Fresh India Book is packed full of great recipes and will make a great gift!
Riverford’s Turkey Quesadillas

Put down the dry turkey sandwich, this is what you need after a day on the sherry and port.
A few lefteovers and cupboard staples make this delicious treat. Perfect side for Christmas TV viewing.
Check out the recipe here
Mellow Yellow’s Leftover
Roast Bubble & Squeak

Is it even Christmas without bubbles & squeak? or are you new to this tasty treat? It’s so easy and you can add whatever is left on the roasting tray. Top with a poached egg and side of avocado.

Our Teacher Asana Series this week comes from the magical and powerful Francesca.
She shares her love of The Undefended Heart.
Here is teaches how to approach the asana mindfully.
This pose is for the end of a practice when the body is fully warmed up lots of quad stretches and spinal movement to create space in the lower back and rib cage.

♥️ 1. Entry is sitting in hero/virasana kneeling position
♥️ 2. Step one foot forward and plant it to the earth, take a moment to find your balance by aligning the spine upright to engage the core. If kneeling doesn’t work for your body, sit on your buttock instead in a half crossed leg position with the other foot planted.
♥️ 3. Walk the hands a generous distance behind you and stay super close to the ground, for those with lower back issues use blocks under the hands.
♥️ 4. In terms of direction of the hips this is an important tip- instead of thinking height think length. Begin to send the hips forward to the top of the mat by pushing down on your chin or seat bone and press away from the hands. We want to feel more length and distance than height by lifting the body in a long curve instead of a straight line.
♥️ 5. Begin to explore the asana slowly and mindfully by pulsing forward to very slightly lift the hips and bring the seat back to the heel a few times with the breath. This explorative approach will allow you to feel into your own unique range of motion which may be very different to this pic of Francesca.
♥️ 6. If the quads are tight then stay lower to the earth and pulse forward and back subtly to tell your nervous system that it’s safe to explore this new range as you are listening to its signals and respecting where your body is in this moment.
♥️ 7. If you feel spacious and the lower back isn’t compressing, send the hips forward more towards the top of the mat which will give more length and curve to the asana. Use the arms like steady and stable pillars to hold you as you breathe for 3-5 breaths whilst ensuring ease and openness in your lungs and heart.
♥️ 8. If it feels safe in the neck drop the head back into full surrender.

A really beautiful posture to cultivate the power of embodying vulnerability as deep strength.
