The holiday season is upon us. We hope the glorious weather has been making everyone feel wonderful and happy. We would love to encourage you to keep your practice up over the holiday period, even if you're going away and won't be attending classes at the studio as often during the summer.

You can design your own flow or start with a few sun salutations, some grounding warriors, adding floor stretches - maybe inspired by your favourite yin poses, and finishing with a few minutes in seated meditation or savasana.

Take advantage of our Summer Offer - for the month of July if you purchase a £100, 10 session package we will give you 3 additional classes, so £100 for 13 sessions to be taken within 3 months of purchase.

Thank you to all who took part in our first  Yoga House challenge! We absolutely loved seeing all the entries, they are truly wonderful. Winners to be announced over the next few days. I'm sure we will do another challenge very soon.

Also a BIG thank you to all of you who came to our first Charity Yoga + Clothes SWAP event. We raised £130 for Project Yogi and Lewisham Opportunity Preschool. We will definitely organise another swap in Autumn, after all, every wardrobe needs a seasonal detox!

We are hoping that hosting charity events and organising fun challenges will encourage our growing community to come together and spread the good vibes wider. 

 
JULY YOGA HOUSE WORKSHOPS + EVENTS

We have a selection of great yoga workshops and events lined up for you this month. To book simply go to our timetable, select your date and reserve your slot. We will then take a little break from workshops in August, but will be back with lots more in September.

SUNDAY 1st JULY 17.30-18.30 GENTLE FLOW + KIRTAN with Dan
One hour of gentle movement, inspired by Qi Gong followed by mantra and music induced meditation. You will be led through call and response chants ~ Bahaman's. Bahaman simply means "sharing". Sharing is at the absolute heart of Dan's intention for these monthly Kirtans. His wish is to bring together a diverse community through the healing, uplifting and freeing vibration of these chants devoted to our connection to source, unity and love. Through chanting we begin a journey that focusses the busy mind on melodious mantras that are thousands of years old and have been chanted by communities over the centuries in the ancient language of Sanskrit. Eventually we will begin to detach from the deceptive surface layers of our turbulent minds and dive deep into our hear centre. Come chant with us! This is a friendly, casual and all-inclusive space for you to participate regardless of whether you are a "singer" or not. Come free your voice and heart and lets build some uplifting vibrations together. Booking is part of the normal timetable, £12 drop in or free for members.



SUNDAY JULY 15th 14.00-14.45 FAMILY/KIDS YOGA with Kasia
Fun 45min session for little yogis (5-11yr) and their parents. Relaxation and fun stories involving yoga poses. Open to all levels. £12 one adult + child (£6 additional yogis).


FRIDAY JULY 20th 19.30-20.30 GONG BATH with Junior
Monthly sound bath run by our qualified Gong Master, who will take you on a magical journey with his three gongs. Deep relaxation, perfect for a Friday night. Open to all levels. £15 pre-booked or £18 on the door (gets booked up very fast).



SATURDAY 15th SEPTEMBER 14.00-16.00 ARM BALANCING + INVERSIONS with Kasia
Learning safe ways and correct techniques to turn upside down. Building confidence and replacing fear with playfulness. We will break down some of the arm balances and approach inversions in a safe way. We will also look closely at Chaturanga - a pose that can transform your practice when done with the correct technique. 

The workshop will finish with a homemade vegan avocado and chocolate mousse.
Open to all levels £20

 
BOYS AND YOGA 

We are on a mission to encourage more men to try yoga. Did you know that traditionally yoga was a male only practice, until the first yogini  - Indra Devi was accepted to study under Sri Krishnacharya around 1937. 

We asked our in-house Yogi to tell us what made him start yoga as we would love to see more men joining the classes. Yoga is a wonderful combination of full body workout and releases stress and anxiety in a very effective way. 

See below why and how Junior started his yoga journey.


Why did I start yoga…………?
I had heard a lot about this thing called ‘’YOGA’’. You could say curiosity was about to kill the cat because I was very curious. I had heard so many good things, how you exercise to move your body and mediate, but at the same time receive multiple benefits and peace of mind, relief of anxiety and how could I forget, flexibility. I still remember heading into my first yoga class many moons ago and being the only guy in the class. I was riddled with anxiety and nerves even though I had a history in movement and dance that had no bearing on embarking on my first yoga class. Thoughts already started to pop into my head that I was going to be the worst man in history to try yoga. Fast forward to the end of class and I was sweating buckets, achy from the stretches, but as if someone said abracadabra! I felt as if I was floating - nobody could ruin my vibe. So, I slowly started to return to this class because of that feeling I felt, and more and more I started to really grasp some understanding. Over the years as I dedicated time and practice to the point I now teach, I’ve started to notice the increase in male teachers and men in class which is fantastic. My mission within the UK is to bring more men to yoga, if more men could attended yoga we could potentially help to battle the statistics of suicide (75 per cent of all suicides are committed by men under 45 in the UK and ROI). Allowing men to express themselves and not attach it to weakness or anything of the lesser, and we can start this step. Yoga House has a great sense of community, friendless, heart and spirit. I encourage all the gents out there to give yoga a try, what have you got to lose?
