Welcome to YOGA HOUSE
newsletter#13 September 2018

Hello September! The season for cosy jumpers, soups and warm teas is on its way, and how exciting! It will look absolutely stunning, covered in all the autumnal colours.

This is the season that invites us to start slowing down a bit more and bringing balance back after the holidays. Summer time is a great way to recharge and explore, but sometimes our healthy routine can slack, so now you can bring the healthy balance back.

Looking after your body will benefit your overall wellbeing. Making sure you keep yourself healthy and strong through regular exercise (we of course recommend lots of yoga!)  and a nourishing diet.

What we eat will greatly influences how we feel on every level. You can boost your mood and energy levels by making some small changes in your every day routine. And if you feel guilty after holidays, a gentle cleanse or detox might be a good idea. I will be exploring a three day Ayurvedic cleanse (more detail below). But you should always research different options and find one that would suit your lifestyle.

We have a selection of great yoga workshops and events lined up for you in September.  To book, simply go to our timetable, select your date and reserve your slot.

SUNDAY 9th SEPTEMBER 17.30-18.45 SENSORY SOUND BATH with Steph and Laura
Sunday tonic to soothe the soul. After a popular first Sensory Bath, the girls are back to share the magic. Tantalise the senses as you are immersed in scent and sound. The session begins with activating your breath and voice with Pranayama and Mantra. Once tuned in and engaged to your own vibrations lie back and go on a cosmic journey, as healing frequency instruments and
essential oils are woven through the crowd. Allow the vibrations to relax the body and soothe the mind as we journey inward to clear blockages making space for whatever is needed in that moment. The sound journey will include gongs, crystal bowls, shamanic drum, chimes, Native American flute and other percussive instruments. During the soul journey instruments will move around the room and a number of aromatic scents will be dispersed. Open to all levels. £15 pre booked or £18 on the door.

Learning safe ways and correct techniques to turn upside down. Building confidence and replacing fear with playfulness. We will break down some of the arm balances and approach inversions in a safe way. We will also look closely at Chaturanga - a pose that can transform your practice when done with the correct technique.
The workshop will finish with a homemade vegan avocado and chocolate mousse.
Open to all levels £20

FRIDAY 21st SEPTEMBER 19.30-20.30 GONG BATH with Junior
Monthly sound bath run by our qualified Gong Master, who will take you on a magical journey with his three gongs. Deep relaxation, perfect for a Friday night. Open to all levels. £15 pre-booked or £18 on the door (gets booked up very fast).

SUNDAY 23rd September 14.00-14.45 FAMILY/KIDS YOGA with Kasia
Fun 45min session for little yogis (5-11yr) and their parents. Relaxation and fun stories involving yoga poses. Open to all levels. £12 one adult + child (£6 additional yogis).

SATURDAY 29th 17.15-18.15 GENTLE FLOW + KIRTAN with Dan
One hour of gentle movement, inspired by Qi Gong followed by mantra and music induced meditation. You will be led through call and response chants ~ Bahaman's. Bahaman simply means "sharing". Sharing is at the absolute heart of Dan's intention for these monthly Kirtans. His wish is to bring together a diverse community through the healing, uplifting and freeing vibration of these chants devoted to our connection to source, unity and love. Through chanting we begin a journey that focusses the busy mind on melodious mantras that are thousands of years old and have been chanted by communities over the centuries in the ancient language of Sanskrit. Eventually we will begin to detach from the deceptive surface layers of our turbulent minds and dive deep into our hear centre. Come chant with us! This is a friendly, casual and all-inclusive space for you to participate regardless of whether you are a "singer" or not. Come free your voice and heart and lets build some uplifting vibrations together. Booking is part of the normal timetable, £12 drop-in or free for members.

We are introducing some exciting changes to our current timetable. There will be even more classes added during September, if there is anything you would like to see on the schedule in terms of classes or workshops we welcome any feedback so please do get in touch.

The new changes will be introduced throughout September so please keep an eye on our website and social media and we will also email out a full timetable plan to you very soon.

And just a polite reminder the studio space is a mobile + shoe free zone.

Ayurvedic Cleanse

My summer cleanse - If you feel like trying a little post summer cleanse, this three day Ayurvedic detox is a nice and gentle way of giving your digestive system a little break and boosting your overall wellbeing - combined with some gentle yoga you will feel refreshed after.

The cleanse consist of eating very simple, but nourishing food everyday and drinking herbal teas. If you are a big coffee drinker you would need to ease yourself before you take up your cleanse.

When you feel ready the plan would look like this:

Morning - try poached apples with spices (star anise + cinnamon).
Lunch + Dinner  - Kitchari (Ayurvedic staple healing food, mung bean dhal with lots of spices and rice).
Herbal teas to drink in between - try fennel or nettle tea.

Nothing more nothing less. There are some great recipes online for the ideas mentioned above and I'll be using Jasmine Hemsley's book East by West.
