Summer is the time of Pitta dosha according to Ayurveda.
It's the fiery, intense, hot energy that gives us a boost to keep moving, to get things done. The summer sun is hot and the energy is powerful, make the most of it and keep your yoga practice going strong. Taking a more challenging class or trying something new is a great way to use up the extra energy.

If you're naturally a fiery person you can cool down and balance Pitta by drinking or eating cooling things like coconut water
, cucumbers, watermelons. Practising calming pranayama or spending some time in tranquil surroundings.

We have all you need at the studio to keep your summer full energy and wellbeing from our weekly timetable of dynamic and restorative classes to wonderful workshops.

 
KEEP YOUR MEDITATION GOING 

We've just had our first meditation workshop last weekend and to keep the momentum going we've asked Ryan from Leviate to give us some easy exercises to keep it up. Here's what he said.

Task 1: Mindful breathing
  • Simple practice, take 2 deep breaths, allow your body to relax. Next bring your attention to your senses (what can you see, hear, taste, smell, touch?), then shift your attention to your physical sensations, then your emotions and finally your breath. Notice each time your mind/attention wanders (and where to). Gently bring it back to your breath. Don't beat yourself up - if your mind wasn't wandering you wouldn't be learning how to bring it back to where you want it to be.
  • Set a timer, first thing each morning, starting with 4 minutes on day 1, then add 1 mindful minute to your practice per day. Work your way up to 10 minutes per day by the end of week 1. This is MUCH easier first thing in the morning. Make it part of your morning routine.

Task 2: Pick a buddy
• Meditation and mindfulness are not about isolating yourself or getting stuck in your own head. They are really about connection. 
• So find a friend, partner, family member who will spot you. Your task is to keep each other on the straight and narrow. Check in at least once during the week to see how the other person is getting on.

YOGA RETREATS

FRANCE - our first retreat is around the corner! We are very excited about it and we still have two spaces left so you can join us at this lovely French Riviera retreat. 
Join us for 5 days of yoga (twice daily), glorious sunshine and organic food in a beautiful French Villa, over 11-15th September 2019. You will be looked after by not one, but two experienced teachers (Kasia Blackwell & Kristin Zink) to make your stay even more enjoyable. Meditation and dynamic Vinyasa in the mornings, relaxing and deeply restorative Yin Yoga with the sound of Alchemy Crystal Bowls in the evening. Delicious and nutritious alfresco dining with much of the produce coming from the Villa's own gardens and locally sourced organic food.

Visit Cannes for sightseeing or shopping
Gourmet chocolate making at Florisan
Gorge walking and rock pool jumping
Treatments at the house, including massages, facials, manicures and pedicures
Perfume making at Fragonard or Galimard in Grasse (make your own scents and tour of the factory)
 

COST: £950 pp (flights not included, nearest airport is NICE). £500 deposit upon booking.

Rooms are on a shared basis. Supersized luxury rooms with option of twin or double, all rooms are ensuite. A limited number of single rooms available at a supplement



MOROCCO - Spring 2020 (March 19-23) 5 days/4 nights in a stunning Moroccan Villa.
The retreat will include two yoga classes each day.
A day hike to Atlas mountains with lunch and meditation/yoga there before heading back to the villa.
A sunset dinner in a stone desert outside Marrakech, including yoga session before sunset and dinner there.
Plus lots of spare time to enjoy the beautiful villa and the lovely pool. The villa comes with a housekeeper and a private chef to make the stay even more comfortable.
The price includes accommodation, food (breakfast, fruit, light lunch and dinner, plus unlimited soft drinks), yoga sessions and planned excursions. Flights are not included.

SLOW DOWN YOGA HOUSE with Lisa Hood Saturday 13th July 4-6pm (Catford, studio 2)
Join Lisa from LaHoodyoga for Slow Down Yoga House - an evening of Yin yoga, crystal grids and essential oils. Expect slow, mindful and deep Yin practice that will help you tune out of your usual distractions and give you space to just be you. It’s an opportunity to open up to a fresh perspective and connect with your intuition. You’ll learn practices and tools that you can incorporate into your everyday life so that you can come back to these zen feelings, again and again.

Welcome to your new ritual. What to expect:

A warm candle light greets you in the wonderfully peaceful space at the studio. With a cup of herbal Love tea in your hand, you choose your mat and get comfy on the soft bolsters and blankets. Soothing Doterra Essential oils are there for you to enhance the mood or energy that you want to experience. Pick your oil (or oils!) and breathe deeply and then come to gaze at the crystal grid. We will be working with Rose quartz and opening the heart Chakra Anahata in the yin sequence. This will work to unblock negative energy locked up in the body and mind, and allow new positive free flowing energy to encapsulate the body. After a lengthy resting savasana (everyone's favorite part in yoga!!), the final task for you is to pick an oracle card. Sometimes the card is all that's needed to cement that answer you've been questioning.

It’s an event of self care, a moment to check-in with yourself and take time out.

TEEN YOGA + MINDFULNESS with Project Yogi Sun 14th July 1.30-2.45pm (Catford)
A 75 min long Teen Yoga + Mindfulness Workshop.

Running monthly and based around a specific theme i.e. being unique, self-confidence, self-awareness and self-development.

The workshop will include a flow yoga class, introducing teens to a real adult style yoga class. Here teenagers will learn more challenging postures, do breath work, meditation, mindfulness, partner and acro-style yoga, helping with balance, focus, flexibility, strength and reliving stress.

Breathing and mindfulness exercises and discussions around the chosen theme.

Open to all levels. Run by Amani from Project Yogi, £12 per yogi.

 

WOMEN'S BALANCE with Kasia Blackwell & Zannie Krogh Sat 20th July 2-4.30pm (Catford)
Women's Balance Yoga + Nutrition for balancing hormones and any emotional imbalances during menstruation and menopause. Hormonal irregularities can make PMS, periods and menopause much more uncomfortable and painful. This workshop is specifically designed for women to support them and their natural hormonal balance.

This workshop includes:

- A 60 minute Yin yoga specifically designed to ease out the symptoms of hormonal fluctuations with Kasia Blackwell. When talking about hormonal imbalances in women, stress management is a good place to start. This yoga sequence will calm your nervous system and detox your organs.

- A 60 minute talk & q&a with the nutritionist Zannie Krogh. Hormonal changes affect almost all body parts and bodily functions, ranging from mood to mental and sexual function. Symptoms including mood swings, fatigue & poor sleep, joint pain, low libido and gut problems can be caused by hormone imbalances and poor detoxification. Zannie Krogh will explain how we can optimise our diet with the right nutrition and how making lifestyle changes that can support our body to balance hormones and support better detoxification.

- A cup of balancing herbal tea and a healthy snack, time for more questions and closing.

FILMING AT THE STUDIO 

We are excited to announce that on Sunday 14th July we will be filming a short promotional video at our Catford studio, showcasing the classes and the studio vibe. We won't be filming any live classes but instead hosting a staged class, so if you'd like to take part in the filmed session please email us to get more info. hello@yogahouselondon.co.uk. 
The video will be used to promote the studios in Catford and Lee and to spread the feel for the lovely Yogi community that we are surrounded by.
