Welcome to our August newsletter. We are thrilled to see that even though it is the season of summer holidays, so many of you are still keeping your practice regular and attending the classes. We have decided to keep a full schedule running so all your favourite class are on as usual. We are already planning ahead and will be adding even more classes from September and onwards plus exciting events and workshops. We have already added another Sunrise class on Wednesday mornings 7-8am in Catford. From September you will see more hot, beginners, pilates, meditation, dynamic and restorative classes across both studios, the timetable is taking shape and looking really strong with some amazing new teachers to compliment our current set of absolutely lovely and amazing Yoga House teachers.

If there are any specific classes you would like to see on the regular schedule or as a workshop please feel free to get in touch to let us know. 

Sweaty Betty Pop Up comes to our Lee studio... this Saturday 10th August 08.30 - 13.00 - We love Sweaty Betty and we're super excited to be welcoming them to our lovely Lee studio. They'll be popping up in our reception with their collection at 20% discounted prices to our students.. We hope this is the first of many Sweaty Betty Pop Ups across our studios over the comings months.. 

Our Catford therapy room also opens over the next few weeks, so keep an eye out on social and through our newsletters. We will be offering clients access to amazing, grounding therapies from experienced practitioners, including some from our own lovely teachers and staff.

A closer look at QIGONG by our teacher Dan Breakwell

Our weekly schedule offers a wide variety of classes and we know that some of them might be less familiar to some of you so we've decided to start sharing a bit more insight into the wonderful styles we have.
This month we are focusing on Qi-gong - a style of movement that includes a gentler type of exercise, strengthening and stretching the body. This is a wonderful and grounding practice that can be enjoyed by all. 

Qigong (like yoga) is a practice that uses gentle focus and intention based forms (movements) to cultivate union between body, mind and spirit.

Qigong practices involve both gentle yin forms and dynamic more yang forms to both invigorate but also ground the practitioners experience developing strength, flexibility and focus through continuous unbroken movements.

Unlike Yoga which moves along more linear planes and ascends toward the sun, qigong is a more circular/ cyclical practice which emphasises functionality, cultivation of Qi (life energy), and Chen (which means to sink and yield towards the earth.)

All of this makes Qigong the perfect way to compliment and balance your yoga practice. It is particularly helpful for soothing the nervous system while at the same time feeling subtly invigorated and renewed.
YOGA RETREATS - spaces are booking up!

FRANCE - our first retreat is around the corner! We are very excited about it and we still have two spaces left so you can join us at this lovely French Riviera retreat. 
Join us for 5 days of yoga (twice daily), glorious sunshine and organic food in a beautiful French Villa, over 11-15th September 2019. You will be looked after by not one, but two experienced teachers (Kasia Blackwell & Kristin Zink) to make your stay even more enjoyable. Meditation and dynamic Vinyasa in the mornings, relaxing and deeply restorative Yin Yoga with the sound of Alchemy Crystal Bowls in the evening. Delicious and nutritious alfresco dining with much of the produce coming from the Villa's own gardens and locally sourced organic food.

Optional Excursions:
Visit Cannes for sightseeing or shopping
Gourmet chocolate making at Florisan
Gorge walking and rock pool jumping
Treatments at the house, including massages, facials, manicures and pedicures
Perfume making at Fragonard or Galimard in Grasse (make your own scents and tour of the factory)

MOROCCO - only one double room left, more spaces on shared basis 

Spring 2020 (March 19-23) 5 days/4 nights in a stunning Moroccan Villa.
The retreat will include two yoga classes each day.
A day hike to Atlas mountains with lunch and meditation/yoga there before heading back to the villa.
A sunset dinner in a stone desert outside Marrakech, including yoga session before sunset and dinner there.
Plus lots of spare time to enjoy the beautiful villa and the lovely pool. The villa comes with a housekeeper and a private chef to make the stay even more comfortable.
The price includes accommodation, food (breakfast, fruit, light lunch and dinner, plus unlimited soft drinks), yoga sessions and planned excursions. Flights are not included.

WORKSHOPS will be back from September 

We've taken a little break from workshops and sound meditations over the summer holidays, but we are already planning some amazing sessions for you in September. Here's some of them already available for booking online.

FULL MOON ALCHEMY SOUND BATH with Selda Goodwin Saturday 14th Sept 5.30-6.45pm (Catford)
A deeply restorative class using sound of alchemy crystal bowls to move the body into a deep state of rest.
The Alchemy crystal singing bowls are made from 99.992% pure crushed quartz and heated to about 4000 degrees F in a centrifugal mold. They are then infused with gemstones and precious metals, creating the ‘alchemy’. Each bowl has a variety of effects; clearing, activating, restructuring, rebalancing and healing.

NEW MOON GONG BATH with Junior Valentine Friday 27th Sept 7-8pm (Lee)
Our monthly GONG BATH run by our qualified Gong Master Junior Valentine, who will take you on a magical sound journey with his three gongs. Setting intentions for the month ahead and connecting to the universal energy.

The gong is a sacred and ancient instrument of healing, rejuvenation and transformation. Feel the deep relaxation and stress relieving effects of this amazing Sound Bath. All you have to do is lie down and let the sound vibrations flow through your body and mind.

HANDSTANDS AND BACKBENDS with Alex Nino Sunday 29th Sept 10-12pm (Catford)
A 2hr workshop with the amazing Alex Nino breaking down handstands and backbends.

This workshop is open to beginners and intermediate level.

Alex utilises everything a human already has to develop strength and flexibility, he will show you how to use the mind, breath and body in ways aligned to natural movement, no machines or weights. Alex's method is for everyone.

For many adults the thought of inversions fills them with fear. From experienced yogis to complete beginners this workshop will empower attendees to see the world upside down. 

This workshop will explore what movement the spine is capable of and why it is the key to feeling forever young. With practical and informative focus on the different planes of spinal movement: sagittal, frontal and transverse. There will also be in-depth practice of the three types of backbending; traction, contraction and leverage.

Here's a nice and easy recipe for GINGERNUT BISCUITS packed with flavour and delicious crunch.

This recipe comes from the food programme 'Eating Well' by Hemsley sisters. What I absolutely love about it, is that it's very easy to make and packed with goodness! Gluten free and with no refined sugar added, just natural ingredients and beautiful aroma. It will hit you with spice and warmth from the first bite.

Prep time 5 minutes, baking 12 minutes

Here's what you need:
250g of ground almonds
3 tablespoons of ground ginger
teaspoon of baking soda
4 tablespoons of date syrup or maple syrup
unwaxed lemon zest
pinch of salt

Here's what to do:
Pre-heat the oven to 160 degrees. Line a baking tray with baking paper.
Put all the ingredients into a food processor or kitchen mixer, blend until all is combined, it will now resemble breadcrumbs. Stop mixing and pour the ginger crumbs onto your baking tray and now shape with your hands to form a large ball. Once done divide into two smaller balls. On your baking tray start shaping your biscuits (roughly two tablespoons worth of the mix) shape into a round blob then flatten gently with your fingers. You should get more or less 12 biscuits. Bake on the middle tray for 12 minutes. Cool on the cooling rack. Make a nice cup of tea, grab a biscuit and enjoy a warm kick of the ginger spice - just like a summery hug on the beach.
